We all can do our part in making the world a better and kinder place to be! Our news feeds can get us down, and they don’t do a very good job of informing us of all the wonderful things that happen every day. Let’s change that by being the change! World Kindness Day (November 13th, 2019) is an opportunity for us all to be more mindful of the community in which we live and how we treat one another, from strangers to loved ones. So jump in, pick out one or more ways to be kind, and make someone’s day!
Surprise your partner and/or loved ones with a ‘just because’
Make their favorite dish or take them out to a favorite restaurant, bring home flowers or a little something they’ll enjoy- whatever it is, do a little something for them to show how grateful you are to have them in your life. After all, love makes the world go ‘round. 💕
Support the troops
Show your appreciation for our service members by mailing a care package overseas! They love receiving mail and would be delighted that those of us back home think of and care about them. Get the kids involved by having them write little notes and draw pictures. They can also help pick out the treats and items for the package. Let someone go first
Start small. Let someone else walk through the door, into/out of the elevator, or into Starbucks ahead of you. Think how much our daily routines could improve if all of us participated in these little courtesies!
Write a letter to a friend
We live in a digital world full of texts, social media, phone calls, and emails. Slow down, take a deep cleansing breath, and pull out a pen and paper. Your friend will be delighted to receive something in the mail that isn’t a bill or junk mail, and you’ll get a nice break from your devices!
Clean up your neighborhood
The kids can help out with this one! Get some protective gloves and trash pickers (HERE) and walk your neighborhood and park and help clean up. If your ‘hood is already pristine (we do live in Mountain House, after all 😀), it’s fall, which means leaves on the ground. Rake them up and place them in biodegradable yard waste bags- so much better than leaf blowers!
Sign up for a shift at your local food bank, trail cleanup, or your favorite local charity. There are lots of organizations that welcome children, too. Check out VolunteerMatch HERE to find an organization that aligns with your interests and skills.
Reconnect with a friend
Contact someone you’ve lost touch with over the years. Maybe it’s a friend from college, a colleague from a past job, or Facebook friend you’ve grown apart from. Send them a note to let them know they’re in your thoughts, ask them about their life, maybe even set up a coffee date if they’re local.
Bring cookies to your neighbors
Now this is something we ALL can get behind! Whip up a batch of something yummy and surprise your neighbors with a special and sweet delivery. Don’t forget to keep a few to treat yourself to a kindness job well done!
