Whether you’re planning on going as a popular character or a generic creature, we’ve got some tips on how you can DIY the perfect Halloween costume, so you can save money and have an unforgettable night!
Anyone can head to the Halloween store and buy a costume, but sometimes they can be overpriced. Buying costumes can sometimes lack uniqueness and the pride that comes from making your own. No matter how you and your kids are dressing up, we’ve got some tips and ideas on how you can easily create your very own costume this year.
Eat, Drink, and Be Fairy
You’ll feel cute and airy when you have the best fairy costume. Look through your closet for frilly skirts, peasant tops, and flowing dresses in earthy tones, such as greens, browns, and blues, that embody a cottage core aesthetic. You can use wire hangers, old tights, and paints and glitter to make your own wings. Once you make your elf ears (using scotch tape is quick and easy), you’ll be ready to sprinkle pixie dust all night long!
It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s…!
Help your child save the day by making them a quick and easy superhero costume. Find a large t-shirt for a no-sew cape and hot glue your child’s desired superhero logo onto one of their old shirts. Lastly, use stiff fabric to make an eye mask that will protect your hero’s secret identity as they fly around, fight crime, and get candy!
Accio, Hogwarts Letter!
While you continue to wait for your letter, become a Hogwarts student with a button-down shirt, a gray sweater, and black slacks. Once you’ve figured out what house you’d like to be in, find a tie in that color, and paint on the stripes. Lastly, use a generous amount of hot glue on a chopstick and some brown paint to make a unique wand, so you’ll be ready to cast a few spells.
Who You Gonna Call?
This Halloween, why not go for something that’s both classic and easy, like a ghost? All you need is a white bed sheet with holes cut out for the eyes. To be a little more unique and funny, don a pair of sunglasses. You’ll be the coolest ghost at the party as you mix and mingle with all your monster friends!
As Sweet As Pumpkin Pie
You can’t go wrong with a classic pumpkin costume. Paint a jack-o-lantern face onto an orange shirt, glue green felt leaves around the collar, and use extra fabric to make a hat to finish the ensemble. Your child will be the cutest in the neighborhood as they fill their matching bucket with the best candy!
Now that you’ve got some ideas on how to make this Halloween extra special, get your glue guns, search your closets, and get ready for tricks, treats, and many compliments!
